A Message on School Safety: In Solidarity After the Minneapolis Tragedy
At NorthStar Group, we are deeply saddened by the tragic events that unfolded at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis. Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, the school community, and the first responders who courageously responded to this unthinkable act of violence.
In moments like this, we are reminded that school safety is not just a policy—it is a shared responsibility. The impact of targeted violence ripples far beyond the immediate scene. It affects the emotional wellbeing of students, staff, and parents across the country and reignites important conversations about preparedness, awareness, and prevention.
This is not a marketing message. This is a human one.
As safety professionals, we echo the call made by the Texas School Safety Center (TxSSC) for all school communities to revisit and reinforce the measures they have in place. Now, more than ever, we must work together to ensure every student, educator, and school staff member feels protected and supported.
The Texas School Safety Center’s guidance includes vital reminders:
-
Strengthen behavioral threat assessment and management programs
-
Stay alert for signs of distress or threatening behavior
-
Promote anonymous reporting systems and trusted adult relationships
-
Rehearse and review multi-hazard emergency plans (EOPs)
-
Maintain clear communication with families and staff
-
Support students emotionally and psychologically following national tragedies
We encourage all school leaders, educators, and parents to take time to reflect on the systems you have in place—and to take proactive steps where needed. If something doesn’t feel right, say something. If your procedures need updating, take the time to strengthen them now—not later.
At NorthStar Group, we stand ready to assist with physical security assessments, emergency operations planning, threat assessment consulting, and school safety training. But most of all, we stand with communities—because protecting our children is the highest duty, we all share.
